Miguel Chevalier is inspired by Islamic art to create Digital Arabesques, a generative and interactive virtual reality installation projected on the floor as a great magic carpet.

Digital Arabesques revisits Islamic art through new technologies. Different "graphic pictures" composed of geometric patterns in reference to zelliges, arabesques, mosaics and moucharabiehs, succeed randomly. These different patterns create a moving wave that forms and deforms to infinity. We discover colorful living universe constantly renewed
Thanks to presence sensors, this creation is interactive. These graphic universe of light react to visitors' movements and are transformed under their feet. Arabesques intersect, intertwine, overlap, drawing ever more surprising new compositions.

Miguel Chevalier found in the art of zelliges, sources ornamental grammar comparable to its own visual language. The geometry that characterizes this art meets mathematical laws that computer software can gain new forms. Islamic art joined by algorithms and digital art.

This creation recreates the magical atmosphere of flying carpets, which are tinted dreams and poetry as the Tales of the Arabian Nights.
